Frequently Asked Questions
Why custom?
I wouldn’t build and install something I don’t believe in. Cabinets from box/outlet stores are just not very good. Variations in squareness, finishing, sanding, etc. all make it by the less than discerning eyes of the people working the large machinery on production lines in a factory overseas, as they flat pack a mountain of the same exact parts and load them into a container bound for one of our ports. They are then unpacked and slapped together with hot melt glue, cheap brackets, and all manner of even cheaper assembly techniques that tend to not hold up well under any sort of moving/reworking on site. Lord help you if something goes awry and you need one cabinet a different size, as you then need to wade through a series of corporations and emails as the buck gets passed around. If the cabinet you actually need isn’t in stock, you might have to wait until the next shipment comes in.
I make cabinetry with a table saw and a handful of tools, in town. If your cabinet run is 94.75” I can make it exactly that - no common stock sizes and then a giant filler at the end like a box store. I cut every sheet of plywood/veneer, I hand sand or file every edge, and my hands wipe the finish on every piece of raw wood. I answer the phone, and I build my cabinet systems with my own assembly system that is almost endlessly customizable on site.
Kitchens and bathrooms are a unique and dynamic blend of all of the trades combined and they often require solutions on-site and in the moment. Don’t trust the design and implementation of the rooms that bring the most value to your home to people that have never been on-site to see them.
is custom worth it?
The real question is “Are the restraints of box store cabinetry and the hassle of dealing with people that don’t give me answers worth the savings over custom?” Sometimes you want to save money, sometimes you just want it to be done and done well with minimal headache.
How experienced are you?
If it can be drawn, I can build it. Whether its a hood vent you want to wrap in viola marble (400+lbs), a floating vanity through your floor to ceiling tile and into metal studs, custom doors that have no trim on the outside, hidden doors, swinging hidden bookcase doors, tables, high gloss cabinetry, or wooden outlet covers I have built it all and given my clients conversation pieces and a few stories about this kind of crazy but great millworker they know. Oftentimes I am shown a picture of something a client saw in a hotel in Europe and asked “Can you build this for me?” The answer is yes.
